The Big Fish Care Off
The Aim
The main aim of this site and campaign is to raise awareness of fish disease and how we as anglers and water users can help fight these killer diseases.
This site is the first to introduce a live map tracking disease reports. This will give users ability to update the map with your sightings or captures of fish that are diseased, abused or dead. With your data input it will help local authorities and angling groups to manage their waters with the aid of the community thus allowing quicker response times to disease and reducing transfer.
Over the past 10 years the number of affected lakes and rivers have grown tremendously, in part due to the growing interest in the sport/hobby. However, a problem with this growth is the lack of information available to new anglers about fish care and water care. This site hopes to build a community of people offering information on what and how to do it with concern towards fish & water care. Watch the how to clean your fishing gear videos on our carp and net care page to learn more.
The angling community have a massive impact on disease transfer and we can almost eradicate that if we work together and keep our fishing gear clean. Many fishing clubs and ponds have removed fish net dip as they constitute a safety hazard and were costly to maintain or replace. It is now up to us as individuals to make the effort to clean our nets and mats and STOP the spread of disease. It is simple to do and has a very low cost on both the pocket and time.
